Nawpara Dada Bhai Sangha

A Legacy of Community and Culture

Napara Dada Bhai Sangha was founded as a Sports and Cultural organization in 1959 at 79 Akshay Kumar Mukherjee Road, Kolkata – 700090. The ground where today the club organises various sports activities, cultural festivals, and community welfare events was once covered with dense groves of Manasa trees.

Our forefathers and founding members — Late Suren Mondal, Late Sitanshu Kumar Batabyal, Late Rasamay Manna, Late Parichay Pal, Late Sudhanshu Batabyal, Montu Mondal, Bipul Gautam, and Narayan Chatterjee — began by worshipping Goddess Manasa on this land in the early days.

In 1970, the club started organising Saraswati Puja in the name of the Club, and by 1990, the tradition of Shyama Kali Puja also began. In 2004, a local family’s traditional Durga Puja was held on the club’s ground and gradually evolved into our neighborhood’s community (Barowari) Durga Puja. At that time, the puja was modest, supported by donations from local residents.

Later, with the support of West Bengal Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee’s government grants and continued financial help from our neighbours, our club building was constructed. Since then, the Sangha has grown steadily — hosting various sports Tournaments, Blood Donation camps, Health check-ups, cloth donation drives, road safety awareness programs like ‘SAFE DRIVE SAVE LIFE’ (including helmet distributions), and our annual Durga, Shyama, and Saraswati Pujas.

In 2018, our neighbour and socially conscious leader, Mr. Anjan Paul, brought together more community-minded people to further expand and enrich our Durga Puja celebrations. Today, the name Nawpara Dada Bhai Sangha has earned recognition across India and continues its journey to reach greater heights in the years to come.
